The beginning of the history of this village lies in the years of the Turkish Occupation in Greece and specifically in the 16th century. However it shall meet its greater prosperity during the 18th and 19th centuries. The craftsmen and workmen of Vourbiani will spread and create blooming communities both in Greece (Athens, Ioannina, Patra, Thessaloniki etc.) and abroad such as Romania, USA, Sudan and Ethiopia. The people of Vourbiani were always fond of learning and had great love for their village. In 1883 they will found the Educational Society, the first Epirus Association in Athens. Among the buildings proving the aptitude of the people of Vourbiani for the culture and letters are the two-storied High School and the temple of Holy Virgin of 1903, which was built in the place of an older one dated in 1780, with its iconostasis having been transferred from the monastery of Virgin Mary.
